Karlsson didn't like all the hits he took which is exactly why the Pens need to keep doing it.

No he didn't. I'd like to see a stat called "Hits Taken" in addition to "Hits."

-- I don’t know if anyone else caught the strange play call with 7:22 to 7:16 left in the first period from the NBC guys. If you have the game taped, go back and listen. Here’s what I heard.

"Vitale around the boards but it’s held in “BY METHOT!!!!” and around the boards …

My brother and I laughed out loud when this happened, and continued to shout METHOT!!! any time his name was mentioned for the remainder of the game. What the frak was that about!?

That would be an interesting stat. I guarantee he was over 10 last night. He got hit hard 3 or 4 in the first 2 shifts.

C.Neil is another guy that was hitting absolutely everything that moved. Someone (Orpik) needs to send him a message.

Orpk was incredible last night btw, easily his best game in quite some time.

The call of the game was brutal, in the 3rd period they said "both sides are dominating". I thought that was one of the strangest calls I've ever heard.

That is the only thing Neil can do is hit and pester. You take those two away from the game, he is unemployed.

Probably, but it is part of the game and he's effective at it.

Thank God for the pause button on the DVR so I can sync with iHeart Radio and listen Mike Lange.

And if you can summon the brains to skate away from him after the whistle, he's pretty limited and prone to taking bad penalties

if you guys watched him play more, i think you'd be surprised. Neil isn't a bad hockey player. not saying he's a top six guy, who's gonna score 20 a year.....but he's usually good for around 8-10 goals and 20-25 pts, which is pretty decent production for a 3rd-4th line player......plus he's solid on the PK, and like you said, is physical and a damn pain in the ass to play against.

i will admit that at times, he does take some pretty dumb penalties.....this season seems to have been worse then in past years.

^ This. IIRC, he made a really nice defensive play in the 3rd that prevented a goal. He's been solid.

I was scared to death of the Murray-Engo pair, but they did OK.

Your point about the fans is 100% spot on. I hate to be critical of my fellow penguins supporter but I have said for two years now the crowd is really loud and strong for about the first 3 minutes and then the rest of te game basically nonexistent. You can just hear the difference between a Pittsburgh crowd and say a Chicago crowd and I don't understand it. Maybe it has to deal with ticket prices getting so expensive and there Wong more "white collar" fans in te stands. And not to sound corny but teams really can feed off the energy of the crowd.

Engo didn't seem to be on the ice all that much. Thankfully.
I think this series would be perfect for Despres. A little bit of extra time to make plays would go a long way for Despres' style of play

Our crowd leaving early and sitting on their hands most of the game is really annoying.
But people that are at the game (Mark Madden) has been saying that the crowd has been way better as of late.

He was out there for 13:30, which is pretty representative, I think. And he wasn't noticable, which is a good thing. I thought Murray played a great game, especially on the PK.

I've seen him look like a real hockey player on rare occasions. I'm a little pissed that they let Neil get away last night without any repercussions. I would have liked to see Eng grab him and start pounding on him. I don't care about the penalties and possible suspension. He needs to know if he gets his hands up on Sid, he's going to pay dearly.

I was there last night and thought the crowd was very good, although it was even louder game 1 of the Isles series. Things got a bit flat in the middle of the second period, but to be fair, not much went on for about a stretch of 10 minutes.

People leaving early is what it is. I have seats about 1/2 way up in the upper bowl about 3 from the aisle, and always shame the people walking up the stairs to go out. I thought the upper bowl stayed pretty filled last night.

Maybe it just doesn't translate well to the tv broadcast, like when we were at Nassau coliseum it sounded like my televisions speakers were going to explode.

Yep, a beauty. Don't see many big boy open ice hits like that at full speed.
